Jesus the King
Light a candle and remember the presence of God is with you.
Before you begin, cut out the Lent Wreath pieces.
The season of Lent is the time when we prepare for Easter. The church uses the color purple to show when we are getting ready for something important.
Every week is a different piece of a what becomes very special story.
Let each person cut out or touch a piece of the is week’s wreath.
Long before airplanes, buses, and trains a donkey was a fast way to get to a place.
Place Jerusalem on your right side.
Place the road on the left side going towards Jerusalem.
Jesus’ friends had found him a donkey (or maybe it was a colt?)
Place the donkey on the far right of the underlay away from Jerusalem.
Do you know the difference?
Place Jesus by the donkey.
Jesus had somewhere God needed him to go. Jesus was always having to go somewhere to share about God. Jesus was becoming pretty popular.
Lots of people came out to see Jesus.
Place a woman and child(ren) and youth(s) on sides of the underlay, lining up one side like a parade.
They were curious about him.
They lined the streets, like a parade.
They waved palm branches.
They put down their palms, clothes and cloaks to make a colorful path.
It became a special ride for Jesus and the families who watched.
It was a special ride for the donkey too.
Lay the palms/rugs down the center of the road.
This was just the beginning of a really important journey.
Have everyone repeat “Hosanna! Praise be to God!”
HOSANNA! PRAISE BE TO GOD!
John 12:13 (Common English Bible)
They took palm branches and
went out to meet him.
They shouted, “Hosanna!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessings on the king of Israel!”
Family Prayer
There are so many ways to pray. This week’s prayer challenge is to write a family prayer that shares with God about a time when each person was nervous about something that was about to happen.
I/We was/were nervous...
